Summer Fantasies in Miss Fortune

It’s the middle of winter here in New Zealand and last week my cousin Alex of AM Photography teamed up on a very chilly but gorgeous Sunday to capture this Miss Fortune outfit. We headed down to Northcote Point which is a 10 minute drive from where I live and looks over Auckland City and the Harbour Bridge. The sun was shining, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the beautiful glistening water made us both wish summer wasn’t still months away.

The Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top and the Betty Bow Circle Skirt had a unexpected nautical feel to them with the water in the background and we had a lot of fun clambering over gates to get the perfect shot!

Miss Fortune is a UK based brand that I have known about for a few years especially since some of their pieces were stocked in my local pinup boutique Rita Sue Clothing. When Laura of Miss Fortune emailed me asking if I wanted to try some items, I jumped at the chance as I like to try to bring as much brand variety as possible for my blog readers but am still quite picky about making sure they are pieces I truly love and will wear.

Since we are in winter, I picked out two outfits that incorporated Miss Fortune’s Lurex items. Who doesn’t love a sweater with sparkles?! The Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top in Red Lurex and Betty Bow Circle Skirt went perfectly together and I loved that the Betty Bow skirt was denim… something I definitely don’t already have!

I gave Laura my measurements (36″ Bust and 27″ Waist) and she sent me the sizes accordingly. As far as the size chart goes on the Miss Fortune website, my measurements place me right inbetween the small and medium. Laura sent me both items in the medium.

The Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top is made from acrylic knit with lurex for extra sass and sparkle. The knit is on the thinner side so not particularly warm- I think it will be a top more suited to spring or cooler summer weather as opposed to winter.

The top is cut strait across to give the off the shoulder look so there is no way to have it sit on your shoulders- however, you can pull it up a little higher so it sits right on your shoulder or pull it down further if you want to bare more. It’s a full length top (not cropped) which makes it easy to tuck into items like jeans without the worry of it coming untucked.

It features a ribbed knit neckline with a 3 button detail on the side.

The size medium fits me although I think I could have sized down the a small for a tighter fit. My only concern about sizing down would be that the extra pulling of the fabric across the bust could potentially mean that your bra would show through the fabric more-  so just something to be mindful of.

The Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top retails for £35.99, is available in sizes small to XXL and also comes in Black, Purple and a variety of prints (printed ones are called the Scarlett Top but the shape is still the same).

Perfectly matching the Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top is the Betty Bow Circle Skirt in Navy Denim/Red. This skirt is so cute, it immediately caught my eye! Denim is such a versatile colour and I loved the pops of red details.

The Betty Bow Circle Skirt features a red trim on the bottom, back zipper and a plastic red bow belt buckle at the front.

The size medium was much too big on my 27″ waist, I think I definitely could  have sized down to a small (26″ waist according to the size chart). I took it into my usual tailor to have the waist taken in and it fits much better now! Because the red bow belt buckle is purely for decoration, I think you need the fit of the skirt to be pretty spot on because you can’t put a belt on over the top of the buckle. I think it would have been great if the buckle was removable for the times when you want to add your own belt but that’s just because I’m a little belt obsessed and do like to have the option.

The Skirt is great quality, I have no issues with it whatsoever and love that the denim fabric is of a reasonable weight.

The Betty Bow Circle Skirt retails for £45.98, is available in sizes small to XXL and also comes in Black, Red and Pink.

Thank you to AM Photography for the stunning set of photos- I used to think I was a winter person but the way I dreamed of summer during this shoot makes me think I’ve converted!

  1. You look absolutely darling! This is definitely one of my favorite outfits. What petticoat are you wearing? I love how fluffy it looks! x
