Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara

When it comes to makeup, I’ve always been a believer that not all products need to be top of the range and pricey. I love my cheap ChiChi Eye Palettes and my favourite liquid eyeliner (which I’ve been using for YEARS) is by Rimmel. There have always been some things that I will spend more on like primer and foundations as whenever I’ve tried a cheaper option I haven’t been happy with the result.

Mascara used to be one of the items that I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on. Mascara is mascara right? They just change the wands into different gimmicky shapes. Maybelline Great Lash was my favourite for years and I thought it was perfect… until I was given a Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash to try.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical. Sure, the packaging appealed as the lid resembles a old pink hair roller but I wasn’t sure if the mascara itself was going to be anything to rave about. From what I’d heard, Roller Lash really helps to lift and curl the lashes, without the need for a lash curler.

As soon as I tried it, I immediately took back all previous scepticism and was very impressed. The wand’s little hooked bristles help to grip the lashes and lift them up. Plus because the bristles aren’t too long, I feel like I have more control and can get right to the base of my lashes. The actual mascara formula works really well for layering- I tend to do about 3 layers on the top lashes and with each layer, it thickens, lengthens and lifts without getting too clumpy.

I have quite long eye lashes but they are very strait and always feel like they get lost against my liquid eyeliner so having a mascara that curls them up so well is fabulous!rollerlash3

Now normally when I am doing my eye makeup, I apply my liquid liner first and then mascara, meaning I can push the wand right to the base of the roots of my lashes without worrying about getting mascara on my eyelids. However, I wanted to take some photos for this post of just the mascara, without eyeliner, so that you could see the length and curl. In doing so though, I wasn’t able to get very close to the roots as I’m a bit out of practice!

Roller Lash is water resistant but not water proof which is fine by me. I hate water proof mascaras as they are such a pain to get off. The water resistant quality of Roller Lash means that it doesn’t flake off or give you dark circles by the end of the day but it is still very easy to remove- I just use my Antipodes Juliet Cleanser to wash all my makeup off at the end of the day.

Needless to say, I’m hooked on Roller Lash. Whilst the first one was given to me, I have now bought two subsequently. I tried my old mascara when I ran out of Roller Lash once and it just reconfirmed how superior it really is.

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash is NZ$45 from Smith & Caughey’s  for all my Kiwi readers. Internationally, you can buy from the Benefit website ( US$24 ) and Sephora.

  1. Do you find that the curl stays in that well all day? I have mega straight lashes that just never seem to hold curl. I’ve tried varying combos of eyelash curlers and so called ‘curling’ mascaras and nothing has worked so far?

  2. Would regular make up wipes remove it? Have you tried Benefits They’re Real ? If so how do they compare? I have not learned how to do false lashes so rely on a good mascara to create my pin up look.
