A few weeks ago I did my first ever Miss Fortune review and am now back with another one!
In the last year or so, I have started wearing pink again! For years I avoided it as I felt like since my style is so feminine and girly, to wear pink would just be too obvious. When Pinup Girl Clothing named a dress after me and sent me the pink version, my love affair with the colour was reignited and now I can’t get enough of it.
When I was looking through the Miss Fortune Website, I was specifically looking for items that were more appropriate for cooler weather since we are still in winter here in New Zealand. The Peek-A-Boo Lurex Top in Cerise was a immediate stand out due to it’s colour, 3/4 sleeves and cute keyhole neckline.
Paired with this top is the plain black Alice Skirt which I adore! I don’t have much black in my wardrobe but even I can value some black staples like circle skirts. This skirt is tailored and sleek looking making it perfect for more sophisticated or business type outfits but also translates very well to a edgier, rockabilly look.
These two gorgeous item together, accessorised with black patent heels and belt, bright pink petticoat and a giant suicide roll makes one epic outfit!
The Peek-A-Boo Lurex Top is made from a light acrylic knit with a lurex sparkle for extra pizazz. Laura from Miss Fortune sent me a size medium as according to the size chart, that would be the size my measurements (BUST 36″ / WAIST 27.5″) would place me in. However, like the Simple Pleasures Off The Shoulder Top that I reviewed in the last Miss Fortune post, I think I could probably have sized down to a small as it’s very stretchy.
The only possible issue that could come with sizing down would be that the added stretch across the bust could increase transparency and mean your bra could show. The medium definitely fits well, it just feels a little baggier than what I am used to.
The neckline of the Peek-A-Boo Lurex Top is just adorable. It’s features a tiny little collar detail (which did have the tendency to pop up occasionally), keyhole cut out and matching button. the keyhole came lower than I expected so I had to rethink my normal bra choice to make sue it was something that wouldn’t be seen. The top shows a little bit of cleavage but it’s fairly minimal depending on how conservative in that department you are.
It’s not a super warm top, but it will be perfect for when crisp spring days! The Peek-A-Boo Lurex Top is currently on special for £29.99 and comes in sizes XS to 2XL plus a couple of other colours.
If you have been following this blog for a while, you’ll no doubt have noticed that I love to match up colours in interested combinations. Sometimes though, you need something more subtle to really highlight the colour. That’s why I love this outfit, the Black Alice Circle Skirt with black accessories and the pop of the pink top and petticoat is just so fun. The black off-sets the brightness of the top but because the Alice skirt has it’s own subtle details, it doesn’t get left behind.
Every pinup girl can appreciate it when a skirt or dress has pockets so she can keep her red lippy handy at all times. The Alice Circle Skirt not only has pockets, but they are proper, deep ones! I love the satin trim on the pockets too.
The Alice Skirt also features a fitted waistband, back zip and false button front. All these added details create a really lovely skirt that is plain enough to go with everything but still has it’s own flair and character.
Unlike the Betty Bow Circle Skirt from the last review which was sent in a size medium (and I had to have taken in) the Alice Skirt was sent in a size small. Laura from Miss Fortune was a little concerned that this size could be too tight for me so moved the button at the top of the zipper over by half a inch. It’s a perfect fit and it’s great when skirts like these have button closure so you have the ability to adjust the band if your weight fluctuates or you stretch out the waist band.
The Alice Circle Skirt is also currently on special for £43.99 and comes in a red AND a pencil version! Unfortunately sizes are a little low but you never know, they might make a come-back!
A big thank you to my cousin Lex of AM Photography for the wonderful snaps. It was a freezing winters day but it was gloriously beautiful!
