Colour Matching Inspiration: Purple!

I’m a hardcore colour matcher and don’t shy away from pairing less obvious shades together. So I thought I would put together a bit of a reference for those of you that might want some inspiration or have a old outfit you’d like to jazz up in a new way. Putting a bright coloured cardigan or using pops of colour in accessories can really transform a plain dress into a outstanding outfit… don’t be afraid to try something new!

Here are my tips for pairing bright colours together-
– If the base item you are wearing (such as a dress) has a print with a few different colours, pick out just one to highlight with accessories.
– To create a really bold outfit, add a contrasting colour in all your accessories- belt, cardigan, petticoat, shoes and jewellery!
– Try to make sure that whatever accessories you pick out are similar colours. For instance, if you are wearing a purple dress and choose green to match with it, ensure all your green accessories are similar or the same shade. A kelly green might clash alongside a brighter lime green.

As my base colour for today’s post, I chose purple! It’s one of my favourite colours to wear and super versatile. I have 7 different options without bothering to do black or white since that’s reasonably obvious.

Starting out, I’m going with one of my all-time favourite colours to match with purple… MINT!
This is just so fun and fresh and I never fail to feel amazing in it!

This next combination makes me feel like a walking Iris flower with a touch of a Snow White vibe! Purple and Yellow seems like the perfect combination for a spring picnic.

I feel like Leopard print is a neutral and almost like it’s own colour. It goes with everything and is especially gorgeous with purple so I had to include it here! Try it with either black accessories or pick out a third colour like red to really make a statement.

Right: Peasant Top from Mode Merr, Circle Skirt and Petticoat from Vivien of Holloway, Lilac Ione Shoes from BAIT Footwear, Velvet Belt from Pinup Girl Clothing and Flowers from The Sophisticated Lady

This one is not for the feint hearted! Definitely a bold colour choice, pairing coral with purple is gorgeous! If you want to try this colour combo, start with just a tiny hint of it- Maybe just a coral belt, headscarf and shoes with the rest of the outfit staying purple.

Another bold choice but one I totally adore! The richness of red and purple together makes for one splendid outfit.

Two of my all-time favourite colours together- purple and kelly green! I think these two colours work really well together especially when in deeper tones- I’m not really a fan of lime green but that too would go with purple.

And finally, there’s nothing wrong with a little purple-on-purple action!

If none of these combos tickle your fancy, here’s a few more to think about –

Don’t be afraid to make bold colour choices! It’s such a lot of fun and so wonderful to be able to completely change the look of one item- like the Havana Dress- by adding different colours.
