Lucky Lou Shoes has to be the most unique vintage reproduction shoe company around. Inspired by the original souvenir shoes of World Word II which from a little bit of googling I found out was something the American GI’s bought back from the Philippines for their wives/girlfriends.
Lucky Lou has taken that wonderful snippet of history and created a contemporary range that works perfectly for the modern day pinup girl. The intricate carved heels and soft leather make these shoes stand out from the rest and I especially love the Cherry Blossom Style.
There are 5 different styles to choose from, each with a selection of colours and prints but what made me choose the Cherry Blossom styles was the slightly higher heels and the ankle strap. I find mule-type styles a little less practical for walking in and like to feel safe and secure so the ankle strap of the Cherry Blossom suits me perfectly.
I am usually a EU39 which seems to translate to about a US8.5 – US9 depending on the shoe style and brand. Since Lucky Lou Shoes doesn’t do half sizes, I went to a size 9 and I think even if there was a 8.5, that would have been too small. The 9 fits really well and the wrap around ankle strap has enough length to not feel like it’s cutting off circulation.
The Cherry Blossom has a 4″ carved heel with a platform. I wear heels to work and can usually cope with about 2.5-3″ heel height so this is a little too high even with the platform. But I always bring a spare pair of flats since I’m on my feet all day. There is a comfy vinyl sole and non-slip rubber on the bottom which keeps you from un-ladylike tumbles.
I did find that the my feet were a little wide for the front straps initially and they were quite tight but this eased after a few hours of wear thanks to the soft leather.
The Cherry Blossom Heel comes in Black and Red as well as this gorgeous turquoise colour I just couldn’t resist. The added details of the silver domes along the sides really finish off the design. They are US$135 and sizes go from 5 – 11 which is great news for those of you with bigger feet and struggle to find cute shoes!
Whilst these shoes do have a very tropical/tiki influence, don’t hesitate to pair them with your usual pinup outfit- they still work perfectly!
