The Kiwi Fiesta Playsuit from Tara Starlet

As a New Zealander, not only are we affectionately known as ‘Kiwi’s’ around the world, but our national bird and symbol of New Zealand is also called a Kiwi. So it was only appropriate that I own the Tara Starlet Fiesta Bodice and Skirt in Kiwi print, right? After all, the Kiwi Fruit is another favourite symbol in New Zealand, in fact my Aunty and Uncle used to grow them on their farm!

The Kiwi Fiesta Playsuit is so fresh and summery, I love the combination of yellow and lime green together. Perfect for a hot New Zealand summer in the sun and especially now that we have the boat to go sailing in!

This is my first ever piece from Tara Starlet although I’ve know about the brand for years. A UK brand, London resident Tara actually has family roots here in Auckland. Back in April last year when Matt and I were in London, we met up with Tara and her business partner Pip for a drink… which turned into a night of crazy fun, lots of laughs and some very interesting cocktails.

I love playsuits for that cheeky bit of midriff and summery vibe and especially when you can go braless like with this one. The Fiesta Bodice has a light plastic boning to help keep the shape of the top in tact. It has a button closure at the back which I find great in a situation like this as it gives me the ability to ensure the perfect fit. The size 10 was a touch too big in the area underneath my bust so I simply moved the bottom two buttons over a few inches.

I’ll admit, halternecks aren’t my first choice as the pull on your neck can get a little sore but since the top fits me well, I can get away with not having to tie it up super tight.

The Pom-Pom details along the bottom of the Fiesta Bodice are just so adorable, it really makes it feel fit for a fiesta!

I’m also wearing a size 10 in the skirt which is a perfect fit! The Fiesta Skirt has a little gathering on the waistband but the skirt itself isn’t super full- but less fabric is probably best in hot weather! It has a zip/button closure and… wait for it… POCKETS. Oh how I love that pockets are becoming more common-place in skirts these days.

Together, the Fiesta Bodice and Skirt create the cutest outfit! I would have loved it if perhaps the bodice was just a fraction shorter so that there was more of a gap between the two items and therefore more obvious that it’s a playsuit and not a dress.
Unfortunately this set is now sold out on the Tara Starlet website but perhaps the Fiesta Bodice and Top will make a re-appearance next season in a new print!

  1. These colours look fabulous on your complexion!
A simple way to get that two piece look would be to fold in the waistband about an inch, it looks quite wide so you should still have about an inch of waistband afterwards. Doing this will make the midriff gap more noticeable to create that really cute two piece play suit you were hoping for 🙂

  2. Love this play-suit on you, but you’re right if you didn’t say in your blog post it was actually a play-suit I would have assumed it was a dress! Love all your yellow accessories too! 🙂
