The Poppy Dress by Dolly and Dotty

If you’ve been dressing in the pinup or vintage style for more than a few years then you will know that your tastes within the style will have evolved or changed since you first started.
When I first started getting into pinup I was obsessed with anything nautical themed, loved little sailor collars and couldn’t get enough with wearing red, white and blue together.

I eventually moved on and since then have had other little phases within the pinup style but recently I’ve been gravitating back to the nautical colour scheme and especially towards stripes!
So, the Poppy Vintage Shirt Swing Dress by Dolly and Dotty totally caught my eye with it’s adorable candy-stripes, contrast collar and sweet little red buttons.

Dolly and Dotty is a UK brand I’ve only become aware of in the last few months but they’ve got a impressive collections of designs at a fantastic price point for those of you on a tighter budget.

The Poppy Dress is made from a stretch cotton and has a A-line shape skirt, shirt style top with functioning buttons, red matching belt (not the sash as shown in the website pictures) and invisible side zipper.
I’m wearing a size 12 to accommodate my 36″ bust but the waist measurement for this size is about 2″-3″ too big so the belt is definitely needed.
I’d say that this dress runs true to the size chart and be aware that if it’s too tight in your bust, the buttons could pull too much and gape open.

I love the fresh, summery feeling of this dress and it’s a easy one to pair accessories with- most ladies are bound to have at least a red hairflower, jewellery or even just a red lippy! Thanks to the stretch cotton, the Poppy Dress is also very comfortable to wear and I could totally get away with not wearing a petticoat.

The skirt length is a little shorter than my usual preferred mid-calf length but it still works with a petticoat underneath (I’m wearing the Malco Modes Samantha style on the shortest of the 3 waistband options). One thing to note is that the shape of the skirt is more A-Line rather than full circle as described on the website. The website also says that the Poppy Dress is fully lined which it’s not- but everything else is accurate.
