Viva Las Vegas 19 Outfits!

When I stop and think about it, it seems crazy that we’ve just attended our third Viva Las Vegas! It’s a big expense to come from New Zealand and going a second time seemed extravagant, let alone a third… and now we are hoping to go back again next year!

In previous years I’ve bought along outfits for Viva but a lot of the time ended up wearing new purchases I’d buy at the vendors or at stores like Tatyana in Planet Hollywood. This year, I knew my spending money would be a little bit more limited so tried to be super organised. I’ve also started having more successes with buying true vintage and over the last few months have been saving all my vintage purchases to wear for Viva.

The whole weekend was such a blast and I love that most of my day dresses I’ll be able to also wear for the rest of our holiday. It’s so fun getting dressed up and being around people who share the same passion… the outside world seems so boring after Viva Las Vegas!

So, here’s a round-up of all my Viva outfits!

I couldn’t resist the gorgeous colours in this dress and knew it would be great for the warm weather in the USA. It’s a original 1950s Dress made by ‘Sun Fashions of Hawaii’. It was one of those pieces that was a bit of a gamble as my  bust measurement really pushed the listed measurement but thankfully it fitted!

I love the story behind this dress. I was doing a photoshoot at Tock Tick Vintage in January and this dress arrived by courier while I was there. Lavonny pulled it out and I knew I had to try it on… it fitted like a dream and made me feel like Cinderella! The wonderful team at Malco Modes helped out by making a custom petticoat for me as this dress is quite long but I wanted something with maximum volume… and boy did they deliver!

The Saturday of Viva is the Car Show and it’s the biggest of the 4 days! I knew I wanted to wear something super summery and floral and this dress fit the bill wonderfully. BAIT Footwear released this mustard yellow colour just a few weeks before we left and Shazam Pinup Flowers created a matching hair piece to tie everything together.

I adore wearing rich emerald green and with my new copper hair and lilac Miss VLV sash, Linda McCarthy created this stunning Dress from me to wear on stage to crown this years winner. It was based off a vintage pattern I found and Linda made sure there was LOTS of volume in the skirt.

A couple of months ago I was searching for inspiration for a gown to wear at Viva. I knew I’d probably get one custom made but wasn’t sure what style I wanted. I stumbled across this image of Julie London’s 1957 album ‘About The Blues’ and knew I had to have a replica. Judy totally delivered and I chose to let the dress speak for itself and go without any extra accessories.

Y’all know I’m a total sucker for floral and holy guacamole did this vintage beauty have me smitten! The gathered strapless bust, the bow and the stunning floral meant that I couldn’t resist! This was another gamble, I wasn’t sure if my bust would fit but miraculously it was absolutely perfect!

This beauty was I think my first or second purchase on the fabulous Ooh La La group on Facebook. It was vintage deadstock from a lady in Australia and has a gorgeous bust pleat detail and wonderful hawaiian floral print. I bought out the teal green in the print with matching shoes and hair flower.

The final Viva outfit! This Dress is based on a vintage 1950s dress I found on Etsy that wasn’t my size. I loved the wide collar, bow at the bust and the interesting pleated panels on the skirt as it was really different to anything I’d seen before, Linda did a wonderful job!
