If you are not following Rachel Jensen aka @chicagochic over on Instagram, then you really should be. Rachel is a MEGA babe who creates the most amazing images, always coiffed to perfection and makes me want to go explore the streets of Chicago in a corset, wiggle dress and heels!
Earlier in the year it was announced that she had teamed up with UK brand Voodoo Vixen for a design collaboration and the pieces were so popular, it sold out in record time. The most popular style was the Lola and luckily for everyone who missed out, it’s just been restocked!
All four of the items in this style collaboration were made with this beautiful green tartan and as soon as I saw The Lola Dress previewed, I instantly fell in love. It features a pleated bust detail, 3/4 sleeves with black contrast cuffs, detachable fur collar and a-line shaped skirt.
The skirt shape and length was what really attracted me to this dress. I love the combination of the 1940s skirt with the longer mid-calf length, creating a beautifully chic look.
Now for sizing, I did find this one a little tricky and there’s some things you should take into account if you are planning on ordering The Lola. Almost always with Voodoo Vixen I’m a size Medium especially if they don’t have stretch. There’s been a small handful items when I’ve modelling on their recent shoots that I think I could have potentially sized down to a small but in Medium is definitely the safest bet.
For reference, I’m a 37″ in the Bust, 27″ in the Waist and the Voodoo Vixen size chart lists a size Medium to be for a 36″ Bust and 29″ Waist.
In the Lola Dress, the size M is the best fit. I find the arms to be quite tight even with the Medium so there’s no way I would have been able to fit the small. The bust and the waist its a nice snug fit and despite my waist measurement being 2″ smaller than that of the size chart, it doesn’t feel as roomy as it expected.
I do find this dress to be very short in the waist which I’ve not experienced before with Voodoo Vixen so it’s more of a one-off rather than a trend. The underseam of the bust pleats don’t come down quite low enough and the belt loops at the waist sit a inch or two higher than my natural waist.
So, my advice to you based on my experience would be to size up if you are between sizes especially if your upper arms are a little bigger.
The Lola Dress comes in sizes S-XL and is £50.

I love the whole look of The Lola Dress and the fact that the faux fur collar is detachable. It really makes it a bit more seasonally versatile! Rachel did such a wonderful job with her designs and it’s great to see them be such a success!
Best to stay tuned because next year Voodoo Vixen will be working with another blogger (I can’t imagine who :-P) and I have a feeling it’s going to be FABULOUS!
Thank you so much to Nicole Engelmann Photography for these beautiful pictures. It’s definitely cold enough for me to wear The Lola Dress now but when we took these pictures back in September, I was sweltering!
