Old Hollywood Princess Coat | EMMY DESIGNS

I’ll be the first to admit, I have a ridiculous amount of winter coats. But each year, glorious new ones come out and I find it hard to let go of old ones. They are such amazing wardrobe staples and when you basically end up wearing coats for months on end, you want to have enough to be able to switch it up and not get bored.

When Emmy Designs, one of my favourite vintage reproduction companies, released the Old Hollywood Princess Coat, I was smitten. This coat ticks all the boxes for me- lush forest green, gorgeous princess skirt design, pockets, lining, mid-calf length and it’s 100% wool. Plus, it’s got some stunning design features that really sets it apart from other plainer coats. The square shaped collar paired with the slight puffy shoulders and fabulous sleeve detail makes this 1930s inspired coat such a fantastic winter wardrobe staple.

I’m usually a UK size 10 so took a 38 in this coat and with my measurements of 35″ in the bust and 26″ in the waist, that’s pretty spot on. There’s enough room for me to wear several layers underneath and still have ample range of movement -especially in the arms and shoulder which is where sometimes my other coats fall short.

The waist is little roomy which is to be expected as my measurement is more of a size 36 but I needed the 38 for my bust. However thanks to the beautiful shaping of the coat, I don’t feel like it’s a big sack hanging off me and I’ve still got a defined waist. If I wanted to cinch it in, I could add a belt which I do love doing with coats occasionally! You just have to be careful not to lose the belt when you take the coat off!

The 100% wool fabric means that this will keep me very toasty in the winter but I’ll still need layers underneath to cope with the London temperatures. My recommendation is ALWAYS the Ice Skater Cardigans by Emmy. They are the absolute warmest and I don’t know how I would get through the winter without them. The always sell like hotcakes and are sold out for the season already so jump on them next year! For anyone living in a more mild winter climate, you’d probably be ok with a light cardigan underneath.

The Old Hollywood Princess Coat also comes in Black, Mustard and Petrol and is €389. If you are ordering from outside of Europe, then you are luckily exempt from the 20% VAT Tax which brings it down to €311.20. There’s also free international shipping on all orders over €200!

Thank you so much to Elizabeth J Photography for these beautiful photos in the Auckland Botanic Gardens! It was a very grey, wintery looking day but was actually quite humid and hot as the day progressed so safe to say the coat was coming off in between shots!

  1. This colour is so stunning on you!!
I have to belt my coats too because the waist is always too big.
So I don’t lose the belt, I wear the belt I’d planned to wear in my outfit on the coat, then when I take my coat off, I pop my belt back on. 🙂
